Two Rivers High School

Reading

Introduction

At Two Rivers High School we fully promote a love of reading, using many strategies to do so. Some students with Special Educational Needs can find reading quite challenging, sometimes even scary. We understand this and take a holistic approach to reading, taking account of individual needs, targets or preferences.

It is our aim to use our school values of 'Grow Together' and 'Enjoy and Achieve' to ensure reading is woven across the curriculum, modelled by staff and enjoyed by all.

How do we do this?

- Whole school morning reading sessions

- Key texts to underpin subject specific topics across the curriculum

- A fully stocked, inclusive and accessible Library (located at the heart of our school)

- Termly 'Reading Newsletter' (click link below to read)

- Lunchtime 'Library Club'

- After School Club 'Books and Biscuits'

- Staff training and development opportunities

- Reading Ambassadors

Information about the scheme can be downloaded below.

Watch the video below to learn how to sound out the letters of the alphabet using pure sounds to make blending words together for reading and segmenting words for writing easier.
