Two Rivers High School

Computing Curriculum Statement

Curriculum Intent – The ICT curriculum at Two Rivers aims to create students who are independent in their use of a range of different software programs.  We want to provide students with an understanding on how to use ICT safely and responsibly.  We have created a curriculum that revisits, Digital Literacy, ICT and Computing through a range of different themes throughout their time at school to ensure that skills are developed and embedded, to provide them with a range of skills across the subject.

Implementation

In computing students will follow the National Curriculum and cover the three core areas, digital literacy, ICT and computing.   Within ICT students will cover a range of different areas from presentations, multimedia, word processing, DTP and graphics through creative projects to solve a range of problems.  As part of the digital literacy topic students will learn to use ICT safely whilst developing their practical skills.  In computer science students will learn to understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation. They will analyse problems in computational terms and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.

Impact

The implementation of this curriculum ensures that when students leave Two Rivers High School, they are safe and competent users of ICT with an understanding of how technology works. They will have developed skills to express themselves and be creative in using digital media.
