Magic

We strive to prepare our students for adulthood by providing opportunities for them to develop skills that are essential for success in their future lives.

In Blue 1 we encourage all pupils to be as independent as possible and take on responsibilities for our school community. Blue 1 make their own snack, wash up and are able to make a drink throughout the day. We are responsible for collecting our own resources for lessons and are encouraged to take care of all of our belongings. Through food technology we learn how to make ourselves food safely and hygienically.

Intent:

Our aim is to provide a curriculum that is challenging, engaging and purposeful. We believe that every student should have the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their background or ability. Our curriculum is designed to meet the individual needs of our students and to help them develop a wide range of knowledge, skills and understanding. We are committed to fostering a positive attitude towards learning and helping our students to develop a love of learning that will stay with them for life.

To engage our learners we have an exciting variety of Topics which we teach on a 2 year rolling programme.

Year A Topics include – Egyptians, Lights Camera, action, Space 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Righteous Royals, and Groovy Breeks.

Year B Topics include – Roald Dahl, World War 2, Vikings and Anglo-Saxons, Scientists and Inventors, Superheroes, What do you Sea?

Implement:

Our curriculum is designed around the research of Penny Lacey, which emphasises the importance of a structured and formal approach to teaching. Our teachers use a range of teaching methods, including direct instruction, modelling and scaffolding, to ensure that all students are challenged and supported to make progress. We provide a range of opportunities for our students to demonstrate how responsible they are as active citizens. This includes activities such as fundraising for charities, participating in community events, and taking part in school council meetings. We believe that by giving our students these opportunities, we are helping them to develop the skills they need to become responsible and engaged members of society.

Blue 1 are trusted to carry out jobs around school. We take messages from the office, care for our school animals, help with recycling, are librarians and lead whole school events. So far this school year Blue Phase have been responsible for running Elf day, Number Day and Red Nose Day.

Impact:

Our students are confident and independent learners who are well-prepared for the challenges of adulthood. They have a wide range of skills and knowledge, and they are able to apply them in a range of contexts. Our students are able to demonstrate how responsible they are as active citizens, and they have a positive impact on their local community. Our students are well-prepared for the next stage of their education, and they leave our school with the skills and confidence they need to succeed in life.

We are proud of the achievements of our Blue 1 Class, and we are committed to providing them with the support and guidance they need to achieve their full potential.

Every Friday we have Assembly which allows us to come together to learn about relevant topics and festivals and sing and sign together in celebration. Each week a Star Learner is named and celebrated in front of the whole key stage. A copy of the Star Learner certificate is sent home and also displayed in our school hall.

We welcome the opportunity to share our work with parents, and we are confident that our approach is making a positive impact on the lives of our students.

Our Reading Approach:

At Two Rivers Primary School, we are dedicated to providing our students with a strong foundation in reading. To achieve this goal, we use the Bug Club Phonics Programme. This programme is designed to help children learn the sounds and letter combinations that make up words, which is essential for their reading and writing development. The Bug Club Phonics Programme is a comprehensive approach that combines phonics, irregular words and contextual reading to help students develop their reading skills. Our teachers use a variety of fun and engaging activities to help children master phonics, such as games, songs, and interactive lessons. We believe that every child deserves to learn to read and enjoy the magic of stories, and our Bug Club Phonics Programme helps make this a reality. Please visit the dedicated Reading page within the Parents and Carers section of our website for further information about Phonics and some useful links to help you support your child with reading at home.

In Blue 1 we have a passion for reading. We enjoy listening to stories and are beginning to explore longer novels with chapters. This wonderful world of literature helps to develop our comprehension skills and develop a passion for reading which helps us to engage with our whole school phonics approach. We have a weekly visit to our school library to choose books we would like to read in school and at home. Our class bookshelf and library enable us to explore a range of texts we may not have at home. Blue 1 really enjoy comics, information books and the Harry Potter novels.
